Maria Alejandra Ojeda Mejía

Maria Alejandra Ojeda is a Colombian contemporary dancer and performer whose journey in movement began with gymnastics and capoeira, giving her a strong foundation in strength, balance, and body control. At fourteen, she discovered street dance styles, falling in love with waacking and voguing, and became one of the first recognized waackers in her hometown of Bucaramanga under the name AKA Zaytha. Her early training in freestyle and dance battles helped her develop technical skill, stage presence, and confidence, qualities she brings into all her teaching.

After high school, Maria moved to Bogota to pursue a BA in Performing Arts at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where she trained in contemporary dance techniques, ballet, somatic practices, and improvisation. This diverse training strengthened her understanding of alignment, technique, and creative movement, enabling her to teach students of all ages the fundamentals of ballet as well as dynamic and acrobatic movement for gymnastics and acrogymnastics classes. Her research into dance history and the movement practices of the Vogue and Ballroom scene, including her participation in The Kiki House of Tupamaras and The Royal House of De la Blanca, deepened her appreciation for community, performance, and creative expression.

Maria has performed professionally with Colombian choreographers and companies, including the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Contemporary Dance Company, and has collaborated on commercial projects for Disney Plus and Nickelodeon. She has choreographed her own work and taught in studios across Bucaramanga and Bogota. These experiences shaped her teaching philosophy, combining technical rigor with creativity, confidence-building, and a love for movement.
