From Creativity to Confidence: Why Show and Tell Matters at Link n Learn
A reflection on confidence, creativity, and community at Link n Learn.
At Link n Learn, our Show and Tell events are much more than performances. They are one of the most meaningful parts of our community and a big part of our vision for children.
When I created Link n Learn, I knew Show and Tell had to be part of the program. Twice a year, our students and families come together to celebrate what the children have explored, created, practiced, and performed throughout the term. But the reason behind this tradition goes much deeper than simply putting on a show.
1. Building Confidence Through Stage Experience
Communication and performing have always been a huge part of my life. Since childhood, I have spent years on stage speaking, singing, dancing, and presenting. Because of those experiences, the stage never felt scary to me. It felt like a place where I could express myself.
I now see the same confidence growing in my own child. Since she was little, she has watched me step onto stages to speak, sing, and dance. Because of that, she naturally sees the stage as a place where she belongs.
That became one of the biggest inspirations behind Show and Tell at Link n Learn. I wanted children to experience that same sense of confidence, courage, and self expression from an early age.
Every time a child steps onto a stage, they grow a little more confident.
2. Giving Children Something Meaningful to Work Toward
At Link n Learn, we are not a traditional school or tutoring center. We are an extracurricular community where children explore creativity, communication, movement, performance, and confidence.
Show and Tell gives children a meaningful goal to work toward. Instead of simply attending weekly classes, they prepare for something exciting that they can proudly share with others.
Whether it is dancing, singing, storytelling, acting, gymnastics, or presenting, children become more engaged when they know they are preparing for a real performance.
The process teaches commitment, preparation, teamwork, responsibility, and pride in their work.
3. Bringing Our Community Together
Link n Learn is built around international families from many different cultures and backgrounds. Since our classes run throughout the week, many families do not always get the chance to meet one another.
Show and Tell becomes the moment when everyone comes together.
Families gather to celebrate the children, encourage one another, and build friendships. One of our favorite traditions is our international potluck, where families bring dishes from their own cultures to share.
Through food, performances, conversations, and laughter, Show and Tell becomes more than an event. It becomes a true celebration of community.
Although it takes an incredible amount of time, effort, preparation, and teamwork to put together a show like ours, we continue this tradition year after year because we believe these moments matter.
The confidence built on stage, the friendships formed between families, the courage children discover within themselves, and the memories created together are worth every bit of the work.
Because sometimes, one moment on stage can shape how a child sees themselves for the rest of their life.
And that is why we continue to do Show and Tell at Link n Learn.
